about

Pied Piper is a song I wrote in 1989 for a theater play about the life and times of legendary alto saxophonist, Charles Parker written by playwright, Robert Earl Price. The title is taken from the German folktale called, "The Pied Piper of Hamelin". The legend dates back to the Middle Ages, the earliest references describing a piper, dressed in multicolored clothing, who was a rat-catcher hired by the town to lure rats away with his magic pipe. Charlie Parker was a similar figure in the music world where he capture everyone in the world with his musical genius and never heard before playing of the saxophone. He is considered one of the inventors of Bebop.
